Content of Messages Posted

Sending messages to the newsgroup is generally a matter of common sense and courtesy. As a newsgroup user you should be able to use your own sense of what is appropriate to guide your conduct, without engaging in unreasonable behaviour, or disrupting the general flow of discussion.

Practical guidelines are available which should help you use the newsgroup in a way which will most benefit yourself and other people (see guidelines on etiquette below).

The IAPM cannot assume any responsibility for the content of messages sent to our discussion lists, as the messages are sent by individual users, and we do not review, screen or edit the content.

You accept that you are solely responsible for the content of any message you send to the newsgroup.

Security

Due to the nature of the internet, the security of messages to the newsgroup cannot be guaranteed, and you should bear this in mind when posting confidential information to the newsgroup. This is true even when access to the newsgroup is restricted.

Violation of Policy

Newsgroup users may contact us about any breach of our acceptable use policy, and we will take any of the following actions if it is thought appropriate:

• Contact the person responsible to discuss the problem
• Remove them from newsgroup membership
• Restrict email from certain sites or addresses
• Remove inappropriate messages from the newsgroup
• Make a public announcement to those affected

The IAPM may, in its absolute discretion, and for any reason whatsoever and without notice, take any action against any newsgroup member who engages in unreasonable behaviour including, but not limited to any of the above listed.

The decision on what action is appropriate will be made by the IAPM Council on a case by case basis. The action taken will often depend on whether the infraction was innocent, inadvertent or intentional.

If we receive any complaint about a message sent to the IAPM newsgroup, we reserve the right to remove the allegedly offensive message immediately and without consulting the originator of this message.

Liability

The IAPM is not liable to any party whatsoever for the conduct of any newsgroup user.

Amendments

The IAPM reserve the right to amend the acceptable use policy at any time without notice. If the policy is amended then all newsgroup members will be informed.

Guidelines on Etiquette

Sending messages to the newsgroup is largely a matter of common sense and courtesy, and users should be able to use their own sense of what is appropriate to guide their behaviour. These are practical guidelines, which should help you use the newsgroup in a way which will most benefit yourself and other members. Not all these guidelines work for all situations, so use your discretion.

• Respect copyright when forwarding messages, if in doubt check with the author.
• Respect people's privacy, don't give out the private email addresses or contact details of others.
• Don't call someone names or be overtly rude, blatantly sarcastic or condescending.
• Watch where that reply is going, should it go to the sender or the newsgroup?
• Send your commands to the right address, newsgroup AT theIAPM.ie
• Make sure your email address is correct.
• Complain to the newsgroup moderator, not the newsgroup.
• Use a meaningful subject line, it will increase the chances of it being read.
• Write relevant messages appropriate to the purpose of the list.
• Don't quote an entire message when replying this leads to very long messages.
• Keep your lines short and don't send long messages, waffle is off-putting.
• Only use ASCII (plain) text.
